Why We Opened Our Home to Guests in Wanaka.

Welcome to ValleyView-Wanaka.

We run Valley View Wanaka, a pet-friendly holiday home overlooking Albert Town, and we love sharing our corner of the world.

We live on a farm on the East Coast of the South Island of New Zealand. Valley View is in Central Otago, near the magical town called Wanaka.

We started building Valley View in 2020. Covid came along and things became very uncertain for most of that year. However, we decided to continue and the house was finished by Christmas!

We had so much fun buying furniture and appliances throughout the year of 2020, by the time the house was finished we had nearly everything we needed waiting in storage, ready to be moved in. It was joyous seeing all the planning come to life.

A home in paradise

Right from the beginning we knew that we would be welcoming guests into our new home. We live a 3 hour drive from Wanaka on the East Coast of the South island and did not want the house to be sitting empty for most of the year.

Our family started holidaying in Wanaka in the early 2000's, first for our summer holidays, and then later, as our children grew, for skiing in winter.

Throughout this time we always rented holiday homes through the online platforms like Airbnb, Vrbo etc. This experience gave me a very fixed idea about what I wanted when it came time to build our very own holiday house.

(Guest feedback: 100 5-star reviews on Airbnb alone, tells me that what I wanted closely aligns with what guests want too)

Valley View was designed from the very beginning with guest comfort and convenience in mind. The 5-bedroom holiday home offers a perfect blend of modern comfort, style and natural beauty.

We have been welcoming guests for 10 years ( 6 years in Wanaka ). We are highly rated Superhosts on Airbnb and we are passionate about sharing our home with guests who want a wonderful place to stay.

(We also want guests to have to option of booking directly with us, thus avoiding the extra 10-20% that is charged as a Service Fee or Commission on the large booking platforms. (It is always good to have options).

Dogs are Family too.

We love to take our dogs on holiday so the house has always been pet-friendly, our garden is fully fenced, (gone are the days of being outside on the lawn at 5 am in the middle of winter waiting for the leashed dogs to do their business before a day of skiing). Now they can run free while I stay nice and warm.

We not yet said no to any dog, but we do not love the idea of puppies digging holes, chewing furniture and generally doing destructive puppy things. (not their fault, they are just being puppies)

But we prefer well trained adult dogs, so if that sounds like you, please get in touch. (owners are however expected to clean up after their dogs, we do not charge a fee for this reason).

There is a wonderful website for Wanaka Tourism & Information Center. I highly recommend this website, it is an absolute goldmine of information for all things Wanaka. I will do my absolute best to share my own Wanaka experiences without regurgitating all of the information on that fabulous website.
